Amaysim said about mobile phone: Right now, we're focused on what we're best at - delivering a great mobile service with simple, low rates.  If you need a handset, we recommend mobileciti. We're happy to recommend them because they offer good prices and excellent customer service. They're the two things we consider pretty important at amaysim.

operators with the launch of no-frills plans.

Rolf Hansen, founder and chief executive of Amaysim, says the company will provide flagfall-free plans that charge 15c a minute on any network at any time, SMS messages for 12c each and data at 5c a megabyte.

The plans will be available as prepaid or postpaid for approved customers.

Mr Hansen said the Amaysim business model is based on a similar no-frills mobile services operation he ran in Europe, where he successfully built up the Simyo brand before it was sold to Dutch telecommunications giant KPN. Simyo operates in Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands and Spain.

"After selling our company in Europe we decided we were too young to sit on the beach and do nothing. so we've instead decided to sit on the beach and launch a new company," he said.

Amaysim will purchase wholesale access to Optus's network infrastructure and IT systems to bring the mobile offering to market.

"That model has really rocked Europe, and today one in three Europeans are using a low-cost mobile operator to cut their bill in half," Mr Hansen said. The Amaysim launch comes as the mobile market is gearing up for increased competition. Telstra has flagged its intention to spend $450 million in the next year on handset subsidies and marketing to lure back mobile customers from rivals Optus and Vodafone Hutchison Australia.

But Mr Hansen is not concerned, and said Amaysim will be deploying its own marketing campaign across television, radio and outdoor to raise brand awareness and snare customers from the big three operators.

"We're investing to not only get brand awareness up to about 50 per cent, but to get across this new price concept across."Amaysim will purchase wholesale access to Optus's network infrastructure and IT systems to bring the mobile offering to market.
