Brief History of the Mac Desktop Computer

The first Macintosh computer was released by Apple in 1984 and revolutionised the personal computing industry. It was the first successful mass-marketed personal computer with a graphical user interface, mouse, and a built-in monitor. The original Mac featured a Motorola 68000 processor and 128k of RAM. It was an immediate success and spawned a series of follow-up models.

The Macintosh SE was released in 1987 and featured an internal hard drive, an expansion slot, and 1MB of RAM. The Macintosh II was released in 1987 and featured a Motorola 68020 processor, up to 16MB of RAM, and colour graphics.

The early 1990s saw the release of the PowerBook line of portables and the introduction of the Power Macintosh line of desktop computers. The Power Macintosh line featured a PowerPC processor, up to 128MB of RAM, and improved graphics. In 1998, Apple released the iMac, a consumer-focused all-in-one computer with a 15-inch LCD monitor. The iMac was a huge success and spawned several follow-up models.

Apple introduced the first Mac OS X–based desktop, the Power Mac G4, in 2001. It was the first Mac to use an Apple–designed processor and became the basis of current Mac models.

Advantages of an Apple Mac Desktop

  1. Superior Security - Macs are renowned for their superior security features, making them ideal for both business and personal use. Apple’s MacOS is one of the most secure operating systems available, and includes features like FileVault encryption and Gatekeeper to protect your data.
  2. Built-in Software - Macs come preloaded with useful programs and tools like Apple Mail, Safari, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, GarageBand, and iMovie. All of these programs come standard on Macs, and can save you time and money when you do not have to purchase additional software.
  3. Easy to Update - Updating your Mac is fast and easy. The App Store makes it easy to download the latest updates and security patches, and the process is much simpler than with Windows.
  4. Improved Performance - Macs are designed to be powerful and efficient. Macs come with fast processors, plenty of RAM, and graphics cards that provide an extra boost in performance. This makes them perfect for gaming, editing videos, and running multiple applications simultaneously.
  5. Longer Battery Life - Macs come with some of the best battery life in the industry. The latest 13-inch MacBook Pro offers up to 11 hours of battery life on a single charge, and the larger 15-inch model can last for up to 10 hours. The MacBook Air also offers up to 12 hours of battery life on a single charge.

Is an Apple Desktop affordable?

Apple computer price depends on the type and model you choose. Some models are more affordable than others, but Apple desktops usually cost more than other brands. Prices can range from around A$700 for an entry-level Macbook Air to more than A$8,000 for the top-of-the-line Mac Pro. There are also a variety of refurbished and used models available from Apple and third-party sellers.

Where to find affordable Apple Mac desktops?

Apple is known for its high-end and expensive products, so it can be difficult to find cheap Apple Mac desktops. However, there are some options available. Some of the best places to look for cheap Apple Mac desktops are refurbished Apple stores, online retailers such as Amazon and eBay, and even second-hand stores.
