Just arrived are Samsung’s newest mid-range phones, the Galaxy A5 2017 and A7 2017. With metal bodies, Super AMOLED displays, and 16 megapixel front and back cameras, the A5 and A7 both seem like Flagship phones. Being significantly cheaper than the Galaxy S7, how does it stack up against it in all features? We’ll have a look in this post.

Samsung A

Screen Size

First of all, the only difference between the A5 2017 and A7 2017 is the screen size. The A5 has a 5.2 inch screen and the A7 is a larger 5.7 inch. These are comparable to S7’s 5.1 inch and Galaxy Note 7’s 5.7 inch screens. The A5 is cheaper than the A7, so if are fine with the 5.2 inch screen, we recommend that you consider the A5 over the A7. However many users are still looking for a larger-screen phone after the Note 7 disaster, so Samsung has provided a great option in the A7

Body & Display

Both the A5 2017 and A7 2017 have a metal body, giving it a look very similar to the Galaxy S7. The A5 and A7 both have a Full-HD display, and while it not as detailed as the S7’s Quad-HD display, you will still find it to be bright and clear. Having a Full-HD display should also make the A5 and A7 more battery efficient as less power is required for the screen. A5 and A7 also has a fingerprint scanner, and an Always-on display, which shows the time, date, battery remaining and notifications when the display is on standby. Furthermore, there is IP68 certification (Waterproof for 1.5m up to 30 minutes), and Gorilla Glass 4 to offer protection for the screen. All those features are very impressive as they match the S7, and never seen before in a mid-range phone.

Galaxy A

Processor, Memory, and Performance

The A5 and A7 has an Exynos 7880 chipset with an Octa-core CPU. While not as powerful as the S7, the the A5 and A7 still offers snappy performance that’ll  be able to handle nearly everything without lag. The A5 and A7 also has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board storage, which can also be expanded with a microSD card up to 256GB. 3GB of RAM is very impressive for a mid-range phone considering the high end Samsung S7 has 4GB.

Camera

The Camera is where the A5 and A7 really shines, packing a 16 megapixel camera on both the back and front. This is a higher resolution than any other Samsung phone ever released, beating S7’s 12 megapixel back camera and 5 megapixel front camera. As a result, the A5 and A7 can capture extremely detailed photos, and will be very attractive to photographers and selfie lovers.

Battery

Samsung has included a large 3000mAh battery on the A5, and 3600mAh battery on the A7. By comparison, the S7 also has a 3000mAh battery, but the S7 needs more power for its Quad-HD screen and faster processor. As a result, you should be able to get more battery life out of the A5 and A7 than the S7, which is a great advantage. Tests have shown it as well, with the Galaxy A5 lasting 68% longer than the S7 in a phonearena battery test.

Samsung has also implemented a new 8-point battery safety check, which includes testing durability test, visual inspections, charge and discharge tests, accelerated usage tests, and even x-rays to ensure that its phones are safe and no future incidents similar to the Note 7 arise.

Conclusion

The Samsung Galaxy A5 and A7 have proved to be winners in the current market, matching the Galaxy S7 in most features, even having a longer battery life. while being significantly cheaper. Samsung will release the S8 soon and Galaxy Note 8 later this year, but the A5 and A7 will still remain one of the most affordable and great value phones out there.
