While flagship phones make headlines around the world for the latest innovation and technologies, it doesn't mean that you can't get a solid smartphone if you are on a budget. Sure, you might miss out on the latest features such as as super slow mo and reverse wireless charging, and you'll struggle to run the most graphic intensive games on them, but they are still able to perform well for general use such as calls, watching videos. In the last few years, many budget smartphones have adopted features such as minimum bezel designs and Dual SIM that were traditionally only found in higher end smartphones, making 2020 the perfect time to score a budget phone. In this post, we round up some of the cheap smartphone options that pack a punch for the price.

Meizu M6T

Meizu has always been one to make great phones on a budget, and the Meizu M6T showcases the amount of hardware that can be packed in a budget phone. Dual SIM 4G/3G slots, 5.7 inch touch screen, and Octa-Core CPU make it a great option to the general user. The Meizu M6T also has an impressive Dual 13 megapixel + 2 megapixel rear camera, a fingerprint reader and also a stylish design, giving the phone a premium feel. One downside of the Meizu M6T is it only comes with 16GB of on-board storage and 2GB of RAM, but it will still run fine for the basic user, and you could always expand the storage with a MicroSD card (up to 32GB). Overall, despite being one of the cheapest offerings, the M6T is an excellent smartphone package.

LG K9

Another nice phone without a hefty price tag is the LG K9, a well built and compact budget phone. It has a smaller screen than the Meizu M6T at only 5.0 inches, but the more compact design makes it easier to hold and fit in pockets. The LG K9 also has a non-slip back design and has Corning's Gorilla Glass 3, which when combined with its small design makes it a good choice for kids. There is only 16GB of on-board storage and 2GB of RAM, but nothing a MicroSD card (up to 32GB) can't solve. Overall, the LG K9 is a compact phone that performs well for basic functions.

Motorola Moto E6 Plus

The Moto E6 Plus is one of the largest budget phones in the market and also an handset with many attractive features. Firstly it has Dual SIM 4G/4G, meaning that if two SIM cards are used they can both receive 4G. Its screen size is a whopping 6.1 inches while still remaining easy to hold thanks to its minimal bezel Max Vision design, making it an good option for those wanting large screen real estate. Like the Meizu M6T, the Moto E6 Plus also has a 13 megapixel + 2 megapixel rear camera and fingerprint sensor, rounding out the excellent specifications of this affordable Motorola budget phone.

realme C2

realme is one of the latest entrants into the Australian market, and it's easy to see why it's been making waves as realme has bought a range of attractive phones. The realme C2 is touted as the "$199 Value King" - and it's easy to see why as it is still able to provide excellent design and performance. Dual SIM 4G, a large 6.1" screen with a Dewdrop design and Dual 13 megapixel + 2 megapixel camera makes it an very attractive option that covers the basics well. But that's not all - a massive 4000mAh battery and 64GB of storage + 3GB of RAM add to the attractive hardware, making it an ideal option for a budget phone with strong hardware.

Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro

Last but not least is the Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro. While the Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro is the oldest model in this list, originally released with an RRP of $319, the Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro continues to be a best selling product and is now available at a sizeable discount. A quick look at it's features and you can see why it still continues to be a popular phone - with its 5.2 inch Super AMOLED display (compared to the IPS LCD displays in the other four options) at the forefront, allowing for colours to pop. 13 megapixel cameras on both the front and back, fingerprint scanner, and 32GB of storage + 3GB of RAM round out the Samsung offering to make it an all around performer.
